How To Create a Creative Environment

The creation of a creative environment is easier said than done for most people. A creative environment is an environment in which you actively brainstorm and cultivate your creative works. Depending on your situation, you may have to carve out time away from ringing phones, family, friends, and other distractions to get your work done. If carving out solo time is essential for your creative mojo, I say go for it.

How are you going to carve this time requirement in your busy life? I have some suggestions for you.

Steps to Creating a Creative Environment

Step 1: Set your schedule. You must decide on your daily or weekly schedule in advance. In other words, you must ask yourself the following questions:

How many days of the week do I plan to create?

How many hours per day will I create?

Step 2: Decide your creative environment location. Next, you will decide where inside or outside your home will be the optimal location for a productive creative environment. A key to finding the best location for creating is to think about an area or room that allows you to think with minimal interruptions. For example, the family room would not be the best place for optimal creativity because that is the likely area in which the family gathers. Although you love your family, they could be a huge distraction. For most people, the best place to be when creating is in the quietest area or room inside or outside your home.

Step 3: Talk to your family and friends. It is imperative that you discuss with your family and friends the need for you to create a creative environment. You must let them know the hours and days that you will be creating. This will let them know that you will be unavailable and that you would appreciate minimal interruptions during those hours and days. What is so good about letting your family and friends know your schedule and your need for a creative environment is that you will find out if they are supportive of your endeavors. For the most part, you will be pleasantly surprised that your family and friends will more than likely be your biggest fans.

Step 4: Get to creating. Now that you have created a schedule, pick a spot for creating, and talked to your family and friends, it is time to create.
